Animated Wor(l)ds is a born-digital, multimedia publication bringing together scholars, writers, artists, and activists who cultivate multispecies kinship through experimental, speculative, and creative practices. The project challenges anthropocentric frameworks and promotes alternative ways of relating to, thinking about, and entering into conversation with the animate world. To do so, we embrace the semiotic dimensions of relationality and language in its relational capacity as pathways to honor biocultural diversity and challenge the harmful, oppressive ideologies that obstruct reciprocal living. By animating the words of more-than-human worlds, we attune to the languages of other animals, plants, and ecosystems with deep care and attentiveness. Through sound, visuals, conscious reflection, and speculative narratives, the contributions transcend normative discourses of human superiority and actively shape possible multispecies futures. Animated Wor(l)ds was conceived, built, and brought to life by Elizabeth Tavella and Eva Spiegelhofer, who acted as editors, community builders, project managers, and web designers, offering careful curatorial guidance while coordinating every stage of production. The publication is freely available open access.

The development of the visual design of Animated Wor(l)ds, including the original illustration by Nicole Neidhardt, was generously supported by a Creativity grant (2023) of the Culture & Animals Foundation.
